Welcome to the 9th Annual Joanne OBrien Tournament.
This year the tournament took place in Coonagh following on from their win last season.
8 teams competed for the Joanne OBrien Shield.
Group 1.
This group got underway with Coonagh and Shannon Town 2 playing out a scoreless draw. The Parkville v Janesboro game also finished level on a 1,all scoreline. Corey Browne with the Parkville strike. The next round of games saw Parkville beat Shannon Town 2 on a 3,1 scoreline again Corey Browne with a hat-trick was the Parkville star while David Ryall scored for Shannon. Coonagh overcame Janesboro on a 3,1 scoreline also with Ben Moloney 2 and Ross Dunworth scoring for Coonagh. The final round of games saw Coonagh advance to the final with a 3,nil win over Parkville, Ben Moloney 2 and Ross Dunworth with the strikes that took Coonagh through, while Janesboro recorded a 3,1 win over Shannon Town 2, David Ryall scoring for Shannon Town.
Group 2.
Geraldines v Hyde was the opening game in this group and Geraldines recorded a narrow 1,nil win over Hyde with Adam McInerney scoring.. Shannon Town 1 also opened with a win over Lisnagry also 1,nil, Darragh ORourke scoring the all important goal . In the second round of games Hyde beat Shannon Town 3,1 again Darragh ORourke was the scorer for Shannon town and Geraldines beat Lisnagry 2,nil, Jason Lillis and Aaron Fitzgerald scoring for the Dines. Geraldines went through to the final following a 2,all draw with Shannon Town, Darragh ORourke and TJ ODwyer scoring for Shannon Town and Tony Fitzgerald and Aaron Fitzgerald scoring for the Dines. While Hyde and Lisnagry also finished level on a nil, all scoreline.
The final was a close encounter with Coonagh having taken an early lead were made to fight all the way for the win scoring the insurance goal when they headed home with time up. Ben Moloney gave coonagh the early lead and Ross Dunworth wrapped up the win.

2009 Tournament

Played on Geraldines Grounds at the Garryowen green. This years tournament lived up to expectations with two great group competitions, Hyde Rangers winning group 1, Coonagh winning group 2.
Group 1, saw Shannon Town and Hyde open proceedings and Hyde by virtue of a 2,1 took the points. The second game saw Lisnagry overcome a game Geraldines 1 by a single goal to nil. The second round of games saw Shannon Town and Geraldines draw nil, all while Hyde beat Lisnagry 3,nil. Shannon beat Lisnagry 3,nil in their final game but with Hyde beating Geraldines 1,nil it meant that Hyde went through to the final.
Group 2 had only 3 teams and Coonagh beat Geraldines 2, on a 2,nil scoreline and followed up with a 1,nil win over Parkville. in the final game in the group Geraldines 2 beat Parkville 2,nil. Coonagh adavanced to the final.
The Final lived up to expectations, as two evenly matched sides met up. The opening score was the all important one, Coonagh took the lead and as Hyde Rangers pushed forward, they were caught on the break twice, to see Coonagh through as winners on a 3,nil scoreline.
A special word of thanks to the Parkville Junior Players, Danny Lynam, Darren McNamara and Liam Treacy for refereeing the games.
Joannes Parents, Brian and Margaret wish to thank all who helped organise the tournament, with special thanks to the following, The Geraldines FC committee for the facilities, the ladies of Geraldines, Bridie, Caroline, Noelle and Lisa for the refreshments, the supporters were delighted with the Tea and Coffee.

Joanne OBrien Tournament 2008
All roads led to the Garryowen Green on Tuesday evening 24th of June, for the Annual Joanne OBrien Tournament.
Organised by Parkville, this invitational tournament saw last years winners Geraldines host the event at the green.
Two groups of 4 teams battled for a place in the final and Geraldines 1 and Star Rovers 1, won through to contest the final. In group 1, Parkville with a 1,nil win over Hyde and Star 1 with a 2,nil win over Geraldines 2, got the starts they needed. In the 2nd round of games Star 1 beat Parkville 1,nil and Hyde beat Geraldines 2,nil. The final round of games saw Star 1 advance with a 1,nil win over Hyde while Parkville and Geraldines 2 played out a goalless draw.
In the other group Coonagh beat Lisnagry 2,nil and Geraldines 1 recorded a similar result over Star 2. The second round of games saw Star 2 beat Lisnagry 2,1 and Geraldines 1 beat Coonagh 1,nil. Coonagh and Star 2 drew nil all and Lisnagry beat Geraldines 1. 1,nil.
All was set for a great final and both sides served up a great game with the defences well on top for both teams. With the sides deadlocked at the final whistle, both managers Turlough McNamara and Windy Hogan took their time in selecting their kickers, but this was an occasion when the keepers were at their best and Geraldines did just enough when their final taker beat a gallant Star keeper to win the Tournament.
The Parents of Joanne, Brian and Margaret, her brother Dean and sister Niamh wish to thank all those who took part as well as the sponsors, Keith ORiordan, of OBriens Bar, William St, Dermot Graham, Norberts Bar, James Grimes of Thomond Tyres, Moyross Foodstore and Family and friends for their sponsorship.
